WASHINGTON, DC – Each team scored its goal in the first half and New Jersey Institute of Technology and Howard went on to a 1-1 tie in two overtimes Sunday afternoon in Atlantic Soccer Conference action at Greene Stadium.
The result left NJIT 4-13-1 overall, 1-2-1 in the ASC while Howard 3-11-3, 1-1-2 in conference play.
Howard tallied the first goal of the game just 2:56 into the match, on a penalty kick by Rodino Wright. Wright's goal was the first of the season.
The Highlanders drew even at 1-1, four minutes later on a shot by freshman Pete Walker from the left side of the field, assisted by senior Gustav Warfving, with his team-leading sixth assist.
NJIT had four opportunities to score in the final overtime but Howard's Victor Thomas made consecutive stops, finishing with 12 saves. NJIT senior goalkeeper Ryan Sutherland made six saves.
NJIT will play in the Atlantic Soccer Conference tournament, to be hosted by Longwood in Farmville, VA, starting on Thursday, November 12. The tournament continues at Longwood with the two semifinal matches on Friday, the 13th, and the championship on Sunday, the 15th.
