BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - The NJIT women's volleyball team registered its first win of the season in a 3-0 victory over St. Francis (NY) Friday night at the Genovesi Center.
NJIT, competing in its third season at the Division I level, was keyed by senior right side hitter Agnieszka Pregowska, who posted eight kills on 10 attempts with no errors for a .800 hitting percentage.
The Highlanders won the first set easily, 25-12, led by Pregowska and Renata Pandolfo with four kills, before winning the next two, 25-17, 25-13.
Brazilian freshman Pandolfo, playing in her fourth match of the year, recorded a career-high nine kills to go along with six assists and six service aces.
Splitting time at the setting position, senior Danielle Thompson and freshman Chanelle Preradovich piled up 14 assists apiece. Pandolfo added six.
The Highlanders dominated the serving game, with a 16-2 advantage in service aces. Pregowska and Pandolfo led the way with six aces each, while four different Highlanders recorded one ace.
On the defensive end, junior libero Sabrina Baby shared match-high honors with St. Francis's Liliana Rodrigues with eight digs. Rookie Juliana Araujo added seven digs while Katrina Hornstein collected five.
Detelina Dimitova had a match-high 10 kills to lead the Terriers while teammate Toni Rich collected 17 assists.
The Highlanders return to action on Tuesday, September 9, for their home opener, a 7:00 pm contest at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center against Wagner.
