BRONX, NY – NJIT's Megan Higgins and Amanda Hefferan were the top two finishers for NJIT Sunday afternoon, as the Highlanders hosted the NJIT Classic at Van Cordtlandt Park.
Megan Higgins, a freshman, finished fourth individually with a time of 20:26 while Amanda Hefferan finished closely behind at 20:54, good for sixth place, in the 5k race, which was scored as a series of dual meets against Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island University, St. Francis (NY) and Saint Peter's.
Long Island's Selina Muñoz was the top woman's runner with a time of 19:54.
Long Island and Saint Peter's each edged NJIT, 23-32 and 26-32 while the Highlanders defeated FDU 21-38 and St. Francis (NY), 23-34.
Captain Cara Constantino (12th) completed the course at 22:29 followed by Daisy Gallegos (19th) at 24:00.
Other runners represented in the race were – Nicole Kerrison (22nd), Shawntel Young (27th) and Lesley Hendricks (28th).
Next up for the Highlanders is the Fairfield Invitational on September 27. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:00am.
