Seton Hall Records Three Runs in the Sixth Topping Highlanders, 6-1

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Seton Hall Pirates broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs en route to a 6-1 victory over visiting NJIT Tuesday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.

Pirates RF Greg Miller hit an RBI single up the middle in the bottom frame of the sixth scoring junior 2B Mark Papas who led the inning off with a double down the left field line. Junior Tim McCann hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring DH Chris Affinito from third as he reached on a Highlander error. The Pirates final run of the inning was driven in by Chris Fontenelli, as he hit a sacrifice fly to center.

Seton Hall added two more runs in the bottom half of the eighth increasing the Pirates lead to 6-1. Fontenelli blasted a single to center scoring two.

The Highlanders only run of the game came in the top of the fifth. Freshman SS Matt Marotta led the inning off with a double down the left field line. Rookie 3B John Berner walked putting runners on first and second for NJIT's senior catcher Chris Cardone. Cardone laid down a sacrifice bunt down the third baseline moving the runners over. Miguel Lugo, playing second base for the first time this season flew out to center, recording the only run for NJIT.

Affiniti hit a perfect 2-for-2 on the night driving in two runs. Fontenelli recorded a team-high three RBI's as he went 2-for-3.

NJIT's freshman James D'Aloia who came into pinch hit in the top of the eighth -- drove a double down the left field line recording one of the four hits for Highlanders. Marotta went 1-for-4 scoring the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Miguel Lugo in the bottom of the fifth.

Seton Hall's Chris McGlynn improves his record to 2-1 pitching 6.0 innings while letting up one run. NJIT's LHP Cory Kuzmik falls to 1-4 on the year. Kuzmik went the distance pitching 5.2 innings, letting up four runs while fanning three Pirates.

NJIT returns to action tomorrow when they host Seton Hall at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium in downtown Newark. First pitch is scheduled for 4pm.
