No. 4 Miami Overpowers Highlanders

CORAL GABLES, FL - Powerhouse Miami (FL) scored in every inning but three en route to a 13-1 victory over NJIT Wednesday night at Mark Light Stadium in downtown South Florida.

Nationally ranked Miami moved up to No. 4 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) poll and remained No. 5 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll. Miami jumped up to No. 6 in the Baseball America poll and also rank No. 2 by Rivals.com and No. 10 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

3B Joey Terdoslavich led the Hurricanes hitting 3-for-5 with three RBI. Three different Miami players went 2-for-3. CF Blake Tekotte registered one RBI, two runs; RF Dennis Raben recorded two RBI, one run while C Yasmani Grandel had two runs and two RBI.

RHP John Housey picked up his first win of the season pitching 6.0 innings, letting up one run while striking out two.

NJIT's LF Craig Binkiewicz was the only Highlander to record two hits - going 2-for-3 on the night. Freshman RF Dom Hayes, senior 2B Dan Morogiello and senior tri-captain Chris Cardone each had a hit.

LHP Cory Kuzmik takes the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season pitching 5.2 innings. The Highlanders brought in three different relievers to finish out the game. Sophomores Matt Melody and Bobby Wyrwa blanked Miami in the final two frames.

The Hurricanes opened up the game 3-0 on Raben's three run homer over the centerfield fence. Raben registered his second home run of the season.

In the bottom half of the second inning CF Tekotte recorded his second triple of the year driving in 3B Terdoslavich who led off the inning with a single thru the left side of the field.

NJIT put up its first hit of the game in the top of the third inning on a dribbler towards Miami's second baseman as Cardone slid head first into first beating out the throw.

The Highlanders rallied in the top of the fourth putting up its only run of the game on a RBI single up the middle by DH Matt Schlitter. Schlitter drove in Hayes who reached base on a base hit thru the left side.

Miami combined for six runs in the last three innings keeping the game out of reach from the Highlanders.

The Highlanders return to action when they travel to Florida Atlantic tomorrow night for a 6:30pm game.
