NEW YORK, NY – After splitting the first two sets, Columbia took the next two to claim a 3-1 women's volleyball win over visiting New Jersey Institute of Technology Wednesday night at Levien Gymnasium.
The Lions won the match 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 25-17 led by Amalia Viti with a match-high 25 kills and 18 digs.
NJIT had its best set in the second frame, registering a .371 team attack percentage on 17 kills, four errors in 35 attempts.
The Highlanders were led by freshman Renata Pandolfo with 12 kills followed by sophomore Baaba Hughes with 10. Both Katrina Hornstein and Kristy Haeckel recorded eight kills while senior Agnieszka Pregowska added seven.

Defensively, the Highlanders were led Pandolfo with 21 digs. Libero Sabrina Baby dug up 18 digs and Hornstein collected 12. Freshman Audrey Snell and Schultz combined for 10 digs.
The Highlanders had a slight advantage in service aces 8-6 led by Pregowska and Pandolfo with three but the Lions took a 10-6 advantage in front of the net led by Monique Roberts with a total of six blocks.
Lions' setter Alex Marchyshyn recorded a match-high 40 assists while teammate Ellie Thomas led three double figure players in the digs category with a match-high 23 digs – Viti (18) and Martina Kajanova (10).
NJIT is off until Tuesday, when they host Saint Francis (NY) at 7pm in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
In the last meeting between the two teams' on September 5, the Highlanders took a 3-0 victory led by Pregowska who posted eight kills on 10 attempts with no errors for a .800 hitting percentage.
