NJIT sophomore Katrina Hornstein posted a match-high 13 kills leading the Highlanders to a 3-1 win over Hartford Friday afternoon at the Crimson Classic in women's volleyball action.
The Highlanders jumped out to a quick start winning games one and two (30-16, 30-23). Hartford battled back taking game three (30-25) as the Highlanders closed out the match in the fourth game (30-26).
The win for the Highlanders lifts their record to 4-12 while Hartford falls to 6-8 on the season.
The Highlanders, who were paced by Hornstein's 13 kills, collected 17 digs on the defensive end. Following behind were teammates Agnieszka Pregowska and Kristy Haeckel who notched 10 kills apiece. Sophomore Erica Schultz recorded eight.
Setter Danielle Thompson piled up a team-high 26 assists while Schultz added 13. Libero Sabrina Baby recorded 27 digs while junior Kubra Tanrikulu dug-up 12.
NJIT combined for 15 service aces led by Tanrikulu with five while Thompson and Baby each posted four.
Junior middle blocker Rebecca Wilkinson tallied a game-high seven total blocks as Haeckel followed with four of her own. The Highlanders combined for 12 total blocks.
For Hartford, Jennifer Monroy, Erin Marco and Hallie Fullagar each posted 12 kills while Lindsay Ford recorded a match-high 37 assists. Fullagar collected 19 digs.
The Highlanders return to action tomorrow September 22, when they face Dartmouth at 1pm and close out the Crimson Classic at 7:30pm against host Harvard.
