The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's tennis team finished their first Division I season with a record of 14-8 with an impressive 7-0 win over host Monmouth Wednesday afternoon.
The Highlanders, who are in their first season of competition at the NCAA Division I level, finished their season 7-0 against Northeast Conference teams, 4-0 against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams and 1-0 against Patriot League teams. After returning from their Spring Break Trip in Florida on March 15, the Highlanders have won six of their last eight matches, including Thursday night's defeat to Monmouth.
NJIT took all six contested singles matches and swept in the doubles contests.
NJIT sophomore Iulia Doci started off the singles matches right blanking Sarah Ragan 6-0, 6-0. Doci raised her season record to 16-6 at first singles. Fatima Kasem was a winner at second singles defeating Ashleigh Johnson, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Isha Toor took the first set 6-1 against Hawks Kaitlin Gallagher and toughed out a hard fought second set coming out on top 7-5 at third singles. Marine Henry topped Laura Giuliari at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Fanny Aizier swept Krista McCormick at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0 while Chiori Koike earned the last singles point for the Highlanders with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Diane Washer.
The Highlander duo of Doci and Kasem teamed up at first doubles claiming an 8-3 victory, while Aizier and Toor followed behind with an 8-5 win at second doubles. Henry and Koike took an 8-3 win at third doubles.
