Mitchell Extends Hitting Streak to 22 Games

BRONX, NY - Kwesi Mitchell and Austin DeRogatis recorded the only two hits of the game for New Jersey Institute of Technology as they fell to Fordham University, 6-0, in baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

Senior right fielder Mitchell extended his hitting streak to 22 games, blasting a two-out single up the middle in the top of ninth inning. Mitchell drew a walk in the top of the fourth. DeRogatis recorded the first hit of the game in the top of the fifth down the third baseline.

Fordham jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a blooper down the right field line by designated hitter John Mollicone. The Rams tagged two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI, double into the right center gap by freshman Michael Taddei. Freshman Mike Mobbs hit an RBI, single to center field giving the Rams a 3-0 lead.

The Rams starting pitcher Andrew Davis threw a no-hitter thru the top of the fifth inning when NJIT senior tri-captain DeRogatis hit a laser down the third base line, recording the Highlanders first hit of the game. Designated hitter PJ Saporito and third baseman Andrew Small drew walks, loading the bases for the Highlanders as Davis pitched out of a fifth inning jam.

NJIT starting pitcher Spiro Molfetas (1-1) who made his first collegiate start of the season recorded the loss pitching 5.0 innings, letting up four runs, six hits and walking three. Freshman right handed reliever Mike Burgaleta pitched the final three innings, giving up four hits and two runs. Davis records the win improving his record to (1-2) pitching five scoreless innings and letting up one hit which came in the top of the fifth.

For the Rams, Mollicone finished perfect for the day 2-for-2 with two RBI and two walks while Mobbs went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base.

The Highlanders return to action Wednesday, April 11 when they host St. Joseph's (PA) at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. First pitch is set for 5:30pm.
