Junior Mike Turner went 2-for-4 with one RBI, as the New Jersey Institute of Technology baseball team fell, 7-2, to Fordham in game two of a two-opponent doubleheader Saturday night at Dick Brown Field, as NJIT closed out its Spring Break trip to Florida.
Fordham struck first in the bottom of the second, posting four runs-- two on a single to left by Daniel Leach. John Mollicone hit a two-out single to center, scoring two more runs for the Rams.
The Rams added three runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth. Eric Reese, Jordan Lert and Mollicone all recorded an RBI.
Freshman Elliott Hagburg recorded the first Highlander RBI in the bottom of the seventh when he hit a blast to center field scoring Kwesi Mitchell. Freshman designated hitter Rich Nazario later hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Mike Turner. Turner reached base on a single to right field.
Starter Cory Riordan (2-1) earned the win for the Rams, pitching seven full innings, fanning nine and allowing just three hits. For the Highlanders, PJ Saporito fell to 1-2, pitching five innings and striking out three.
NJIT was led by Turner, who finished 2-for-4, while teammates Hagburg and Nazario recorded one RBI apiece. Mitchell wast 1-for-3 with one run.
Millicone led the Rams, hitting 3-for-4 with three RBI. Michael Mobbs also hit 3-for-4 with three runs. Centerfielder Leach ended the game 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI's.
The Highlanders are slated to return to action on Wednesday, March 21 when they host Wagner College at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium at 4 pm.
