North Dakota State Outlasts Highlanders

NEWARK, NJ - Junior forward Brenda Slyt scored a game-high 20 points, leading two double-figure scorers for visiting North Dakota State in its 73-54 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center Thursday night.

The Bison (13-11) got 17 points from sophomore Jerri Penley and 10 points from junior guard Emily Moran. Jenna Lemnus and Amanda Girodat's seven rebounds paced North Dakota State on the boards.

The Highlanders, were led by senior co-captain Kelly Crowe's 17 points. In addition to Crowe's 17 points, NJIT got 13 points from freshman guard Colleen Vogel. Ali Baumlin and Katie Piekielski both netted six points apiece.

Crowe, shot 3-for-6 from behind the arc and 4-for-7 from the foul line boosting her career total to 1,485.

North Dakota State's Penley scored nine of her points in the first half, as the Bison built a 30-27 lead at the half. Vogel led the way for the Highlanders netting seven points while Crowe followed behind posting six.

Crowe, the senior guard, scored the first two buckets of the second half, knotting the game at 32. The Bison went on a 7-0 run over the next 3:07 building a 42-34 lead.

NJIT came within one point of the Bison after Crowe hit one of two from the free throw line making the score 47-46.

The Bison closed out the game as they rallied on another 7-0 run which was led by Danni Heintzelman who chipped in four points.

The Highlanders will close out their 2006-07 season on Saturday, March 3 at 2pm. The game will mark the final home contests for Crowe and Aine O'Dwyer, the Highlanders' senior co-captains.
