Highlanders Sweep Sacred Heart

NEWARK, NJ - New Jersey Institute of Technology rolled to its eighth win in nine starts, sweeping Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Hay Division foe Sacred Heart, 3-0 (30-22, 30-16, 30-18) Thursday night in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.

The Highlanders boosted their record to 5-1 in the EIVA Hay with the decisive victory over the visiting Pioneers. NJIT completed the sweep of the season series, having defeated Sacred Heart, 3-0, in Connecticut on January 31.

NJIT dominated every part of the match on Thursday, with a team attack percentage of .348, a 13-3 advantage in service aces and a 10-4 team blocking advantage.

Amobi Armstrong had a match-high 11 kills to lead NJIT, while Leonardo Paludo notched 10 kills against just one error in 20 attempts for a .450 attack percentage.

Paludo had 5 aces and he also had 4 blocks. Greg Wagner and Brian Gadaleta had 8 kills apiece. Wagner had no attack errors in 13 attempts for a sizzling .615 attack percentage. He also had 4 aces.

Setter Rodrigo Correa collected 41 assists, while Eduardo Welter had a match-best 12 digs.

Barry Smith was strong on the attack for the visitors, with 9 kills, 0 errors and 17 attempts for a .529 hitting percentage. He also had a team-leading 7 digs. Setter John Breen had 26 assists.

NJIT's next five matches are out of the EIVA Hay Division, starting with a weekend pair in the Golden Dome Classic at Rutgers-Newark against EIVA Tait Division teams Juniata (Saturday at 5 pm) and George Mason (Sunday at 5 pm).
