NJIT Defeats Long Island

TENAFLY, NJ - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's tennis team raised it overall record to 5-2 with a convincing 6-1 win over Long Island Saturday afternoon at Tenafly Racquet Club.

NJIT won five of the six singles matches and swept the three doubles matches.

Iulia Doci and Fatima Kasem teamed for an 8-3 win in first doubles against Long Islands' duo of Merue Koksel and Lilana Cortes. Doci also defeated Ann Johnson in first singles 6-3, 6-0, while Kasem of the Highlanders topped Xenia Roman in fouth singles 6-1, 6-3.

Isha Toor and Fanny Aizier picked up an 8-5 win for NJIT in second doubles, while Toor claimed a hard-fought win in third singles, defeating Cortes, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-4.

The only win for Long Island was at second singles, won by Koksal, 6-0, 6-3.

The Highlanders return to action when they host Temple on Saturday, February 16 at 7pm at Tenafly Racquet Club in Tenafly, NJ.
