NJIT freshman guard Jessica Gerald is the national NCAA Division I Independent women's basketball Newcomer of the Week, award coordinator Clint Burgi of Utah Valley announced.
Texas-Pan American senior LeKeisha Gray was named Division I Independent
Player of the Week averaging 15.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists for the Lady Broncs, who won two out of three games last week.
Gerald combined for 13 points while shooting 6-for-11 from the field in 22 minutes of action off the bench last week as Long Island University escaped with a 67-63 victory at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
Gerald, who scored 11 of her points in the second half, and Kehinde Oyelola, who scored 10 of her points in the second half, accounted for nearly all of the Highlanders' 24-1 bench scoring advantage over the final 20 minutes.
The Highlanders next scheduled game is Friday, December 21 at 1 pm, when they host Wagner in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
