Highlanders Sweep Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT - The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's volleyball team stayed hot Wednesday night, winning its second Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Hay Division volleyball match with a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart at the Pitt Center.

The Highlanders, now 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the EIVA Hay Division, began their 2007 campaign with a 3-0 sweep against NYU on Thursday, January 25 and tallied their second win tonight topping Sacred Heart 3-0.

All three matches were close but the Highlanders came out on top each time, 32-30, 30-27, 38-36.

The Highlanders were led by Brazilian native Leonardo Paludo with 15 kills and 9 digs while sophomore Amobi Armstrong tallied 13 kills and 6 digs. Freshman Charles Bell followed behind with 12 kills. Eduardo Welter and Bell both notched 7 digs apiece.

Sophomore Rodrigo Correa posted a match-high 43 assists and two aces. Junior Greg Wagner collected a match-high 5 blocks.

The Highlanders notched 7 service aces in the match.

For the Pioneers, Barry Smith led the way with 15 kills, 5 digs and two blocks while Mike Ivers posted 10 kills. John Breen tallied 37 assists.

The Highlanders return to action on Friday, February 2, when they travel to Harvard for another EIVA match-up. The match is scheduled for a 7pm.
