NJIT Tops Queens (NY)

NEWARK, NJ - The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's swimming team swam past Queens (NY), Friday night 88-65 at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.

NJIT collected nine first-place finishes on the night, posting wins in the 200 medley relay, 1000 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 500 freestyle and 100 breast.

The 200 relay team of Dan Botero, Rob Franc, Hayk Ekshian and Marc Ubaldi got things started right for NJIT with a first-place finish at 147.72.

Four different Highlanders claimed top honors in seven of the eight individual freestyle events. Senior Franc won the 1000 free at 12:05.40 and the 500 free at 5:56.16. Ekshian collected points for the highlanders placing first in the 50 free with a time of 22.44 and the 100 fly at 55.90. Freshman Alan Roberts picked up a first place win in the 100 breast finishing at 1:01.14.

Senior captain Ubaldi won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.97 and the 100 back finishing at 1:01.94.

NJIT finished up the meet placing first and third in the 200 free relay. Schreyer, Franc, James Paccioretti, and Ekshian finished first at 1:37.34 while Alfio Racite, Rajendra Bahadur, Pablo Botero and Mike Lawson finished third with a time of 1:46.84

The Highlanders return to action on Saturday, January 27, when they travel to William Paterson for a 1pm start.
