Fordham, ranked 12th in the latest Division I National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, got a goal and an assist from Kevin Meyer en route to a 3-0 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology in the LIU Soccer Classic Friday evening.
Fordham (4-0) scored once in the first half and twice in the second half to defeat the Highlanders (1-3) in opening-day action at the tournament hosted by Long Island University.
Meyer scored unassisted at 15:46 for the only goal of the first half and his through ball set up Ryan Brown for a breakaway goal just 2:34 into the second period. Omero Rozen capped the scoring for Fordham in the 70th minute, scoring off assists from Dean Stanic and Alex Brunbauer.
Doug Devereaux made 6 saves in registering the shutout for the Rams. NJIT's Josh Osit went the distance in goal, making 4 saves for the Highlanders. The shots were 13-10 in favor of Fordham, while NJIT collected 10 corner kicks to three for the Rams.
The Highlanders will take on host LIU on Sunday at 2:30 pm to close out play in the two-match tournament.
