Highlanders Sweep Howard, 3-0, at American Invitational

WASHINGTON, DC - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's volleyball team picked up its second win of the season, defeating Howard University Saturday evening 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-16) decision in the final match of the American Invitational.

Highlander Aggie Pregowska posted a match-high 15 kills along with eight digs to lead NJIT past Howard.

The Bisons' Janel James led her team with 12 kills, while teammate Brooke Strode recorded eight. Shannon Grant and Strode notched three blocks apiece.

Sophomore Kubra Tanrikulu recorded 10 kills and nine digs while teammate Sabrina Baby recorded a career-high 20 digs.

Setter Danielle Thompson tallied up 37 assists, eight digs and two service aces in the win.

The Highlanders improve their record to 2-3 overall while the Bison fall to 0-3.

Freshmen Kasha Hornstein and Kristy Haeckel were named to the American University Classic All-Tournament team. Hornstein averaged 2.67 kills per game at a 1.94 hitting percentage and averaged 2.67 digs per game in NJIT's three matches. Haeckel averaged 2.0 kills per game, along with nine service aces while blocking an average of 0.56 per game.

NJIT returns to action on September 6th when they travel to Long Island University for a 6:00pm start.
