NEWARK, NJ - New Jersey Institute of Technology men's tennis team made history Saturday afternoon, registering its first victory as an NCAA Division I program in a 4-3 win over Rider University.

The Highlanders swept the doubles contest. Steve Arlt and Ramy Lawandy topped Marc Ashed and Will Haight at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. Tim Weiman and Damian Wentzel recorded a point for NJIT.

In singles action, Steve Erickson was too much for Jimmy Leone at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Arlt and Weiman picked up wins for the Highlanders at No. 2 singles and No. 5 singles.

The Highlanders return to action on Saturday, September 23rd when they play host to Rhode Island University at 2:00pm at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
