Box Score
BRONX, NY -
Host Fordham raised its season record to 9-3 with a 3-0 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology on the opening day of the Rose Hill Classic women's volleyball tournament.
Fordham, with a veteran squad that returns four starters from last year's 19-win team, disposed of the Highlanders easily in the first game, 30-17. However, NJIT, 2-8 in its first season of NCAA Division I competition, became an increasingly difficult foe, improving to 23-30 in the second game and then led well into the third game before succumbing, 28-30.
Freshman Kasha Hornstein led the NJIT attack with 8 kills, followed by Aggie Pregowska's 7 kills. Danielle Thompson had 24 assists, while Kubra Tanrikulu and Sabrina Baby shared match-high honors with 10 digs apiece.
Tasha Johnston and Jamee Stinson combined for 27 kills and Lauren Fitzsimon had 10 digs for Fordham.
The Rose Hill Classic continues on Friday evening and into Saturday. NJIT will face Saint Peter's in a scheduled 4:30 pm start on Friday and the Highlanders will take on Maine at 9 am and Tulsa at 2 pm on Saturday.
