The New Jersey Institute of Technology baseball team fell to the Falcons of Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up at Breslin Field this afternoon.
The Highlanders fall to 17-15 overall, 9-10 in the CACC, while the Falcons improve to 21-22 overall, 9-11 in the CACC.
Felician opened up the game scoring a run in the first and second inning. Kenny Vanderhee led off the first inning with an infield single and later scored on a Highlander throwing error. The second Falcon run came on an RBI single by senior second baseman John Tingos.
Tingos recorded his second RBI single of the game in the bottom of the sixth giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead, while pinch hitter Mike Rooth hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the seventh, earning his first RBI of the game and jumping ahead 4-0.
The Falcons added another run when centerfielder Kenny Vanderhee belted an RBI single to centerfield.
Sophomore pitcher Scott Van Es recorded a shut-out, pitching 9 innings and striking out six, while Rob Forbes (2-5) was credited with the loss pitching 6, fanning seven and scattering seven hits.
NJIT offense was led by Dan Morogiello and Jeff Potter who both hit 2-for-3 on the day. Matt Schlitter was the other Highlander with the fifth hit, hitting 1-for4. For the Falcons, John Tingos hit 2-for-5 with two RBI while Kenny Vanderhee was 2-for-4 with one run and RBI.
The Highlanders return to action on Friday when they travel to Philadelphia University for a CACC match-up. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
