WATERBURY, CT - Austin DeRogatis and Jeff Potter each blasted long home runs, keying a six-run second inning for New Jersey Institute of Technology in an 8-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Post on Friday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

DeRogatis' solo shot to left center was his fourth homer of the year, while Potter hit a two-run homer off the scoreboard, keying the Highlanders' six-run explosion in the second inning.

NJIT, which has won three in a row and five of the last six, all in the CACC, upped its overall record to 14-11 and its conference mark to 7-7. Post is 11-28 overall and 4-10 in the CACC.

The big second inning pushed the Highlanders into the lead after they had allowed Post a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. NJIT added a run in the fourth for a 7-2 lead, before the Eagles picked up two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings. The Highlanders also scored in the top of the ninth.

NJIT leadoff man Craig Binkiewicz was 3-for-4, with three runs scored, while Derrick McCain also got three hits for the Highlanders. Potter and Rob Pietrocola added two hits apiece for the winners.

Starting pitcher Chris Legiadre raised his record to 4-2, working the first 6 innings and allowing 5 earned runs on 11 hits, while striking out 5. Legiadre earned his 25th career win and struck out his 200th batter of his career. Cory Kuzmik earned his third save by working three hitless innings. Post starter Greg Romer took the loss.

The two teams will meet again in a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
