New Jersey Institute of Technology defeated Long Island University, St. Francis (NY) and Saint Peter's and lost to host Fairleigh Dickinson in Sunday's men's Patch Track Meet held in FDU's Rothman Center.
The meet was scored as a series of head-to-head competitions, as the Highlanders beat LIU, 53-28, St. Francis, 52-45 and Saint Peter's, 54-47. FDU topped NJIT, 57-43.
Individually, Umar Saeed won the 3,000-meter run at 9:22.2, more than nine seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Matt Magnifico also won the triple jump at 11.69 meters.
Matt Michalec was third in the 55-meter dash (7.1). Duc Tran was second at 1,000 meters (2:49.6) and third in the 3,000 (9:37.2).
The NJIT 4 x 800 relay team of Bryan Louvado, Babatunde Busari, Michael Gurlacz and Magnifico was second at 8:45.3.
The Highlanders are off until January 19, when they compete in the UAlbany Great Dane Classic, hosted by Albany at 2 pm in the New York City Armory.
