North Florida Rallies Past Highlanders

FARMVILLE, VA - Senior guard Kelly Crowe scored 15 points and grabbed down eight rebounds in a 52-46 loss to North Florida in the opening round of the Lancer Invitational hosted by Longwood at Willett Hall Friday night.

The Highlanders came out of the gates strong in the first half scoring the first six points of the game. NJIT went on a 6-3 run until senior guard Tamara Hubbard tied the game at 6-6 when she hit a three-pointer with 10:10 left in the half. Hubbard sparked the Lady Ospreys' scoring the next seven points in 15 minutes of play.

Rookie Katie Piekielski led the Highlanders in the first half with nine points hitting 4-5 from the floor and 1-1 from behind the arc while Crowe netted five points. Senior Aine O'Dwyer chipped in four. Hubbard tallied five points 3-9 from the field and three rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

Crowe led the team in the final minutes with 10 points, finishing the night with 15 total points. Piekielski wrapped up the night with 14 points, three steals and two rebounds while O'Dwyer added eight points and seven boards.

For the Lady Ospreys, Hubbard netted six points in the final half ending the night with 12 while Jennifer Bowen contributed nine points and eight rebounds. Bowen shot 5-6 from the free-throw line in the second half.

The Highlanders return to action Saturday when they take on Norfolk State in the consolation game of the Lancer Invitational at 2 pm.
