Box Score

NEWARK, NJ - Visiting Army continued its fine women's volleyball season, raising its record to 14-4 with a 3-0 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology Wednesday night in the Fleisher Athletic Center.

The first of the three games was the most competitive, by far, as Army pulled out a 30-25 win. The Highlanders held a 3-2 lead early in game two, but Army ran off four straight points and never looked back in taking that game, 30-19 and then closing out the Highlanders, 30-22.

The win was the second of the year for Army against NJIT. Back on August 26, Army handed the Highlanders a 3-0 loss in what was NJIT's second match in its first season of NCAA Division competition.

The biggest statistical difference in the teams Wednesday was in the serving game, where the Black Knights had a 14-2 advantage. Briana Stremick served 6 aces, while Elizabeth Lazzari added 4 aces.

Lazzari also led the Army attack with 10 kills and 1 error in 21 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage. Maureen Bannon had 13 assists and libero Eileen Cassidy had a match-high 15 digs.

By far the most effective attacker for NJIT was freshman Kristy Haeckel, who had a .353 attack percentage, with 7 kills, 1 error and 17 attempts. She also had a team-leading 3 blocks.

Danielle Thompson picked up 18 assists, while Kasha Hornstein's 11 digs paced the Highlanders.

NJIT is off more than a week before heading to Dover, Delaware, where it will play a pair of neutral-site matches, as well as face host Delaware State. The Highlanders will take on Winston-Salem State in Dover on October 20 and then play a tri-match on October 21, facing Providence and Delaware State.
