NEWARK, NJ -
Marc Ubaldi set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle and the New Jersey Institute of Technology men's swimming team captured a 78-49 win over visiting Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Wednesday night.
Ubaldi, who set the NJIT 100 free record in a time of 50:48, actually established the mark after the Highlanders had clinched the meet, so, in swimming tradition, he was not credited with a first-place finish, even though he was nearly five seconds faster than anyone else in the pool.
However, the junior was credited with a first in the 50-yard freestyle (23:03) and he was also part of the winning medley relay team, along with Dan Botero, Pantelis Athanassiou and Alfio Raciti.
Andrew Coslow was first in 1,000-yard freestyle. Mike Finley won the 200-yard freestyle. Mike Lawson won the 200-yard individual medley and Rob Franc earned first-place points in the 100-yard butterfly.
Botero had the fastest time in the 200-yard back stroke, as did Coslow in the 500-yard free and Ed Lui in the 100-yard breast stroke.
NJIT's next scheduled competition is at Vassar on February 3.
