Rayven Johnson, who led NJIT to the Women's Basketball Championship of the Great West Conference in her final college game in 2013, played professionally for three seasons (2013-2016) in Hannover, Germany with TK Hannover.
“I am extremely excited to have Rayven return to NJIT as an assistant coach,” added Lanpher. “As a player, Rayven was one of our most respected and coveted student- athletes. I look forward to her bringing her same work ethic and passion that she showed as a player to the coaching staff.”
TK Hanover, who plays in the 2nd German Basketball North Division, captured the league title in 2015-16, defeating Wolfenbuettel, 64-58, will compete in the 1st German Basketball North Division in 2016-17.
Johnson, who hails from Rahway, NJ, and graduated from Bloomfield Tech before coming to NJIT, led Hannover in 2013-14 in scoring (19 ppg), free throws made (145) and field goals made (131), while ranking second on the team in rebounding (7.6 rpg).
The website Eurobasket.com named her to its all German 2.Bundesliga (national league) North 2nd team and German 2.Bundesliga (national league) North All-Imports team following the 2013-14 season.
Johnson was named 2013 Great West Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player following NJIT's title win, completing her college career with 1,248 points (second all-time in NJIT's Division I era and fourth overall for a program that competed in Division II and Division III before moving to the NCAA's top level in 2006-07).
Her 852 career rebounds are tops in the Division I era and second overall.
