Alicja Pawelec graduated from Iona in May 2014 with a BS majoring in chemistry and minoring in biology. She was in Iona’s Honors Program and was an Honors Dean’s scholarship recipient all three years, as she graduated with a cumulative GPA above 3.5.

During her senior year at Iona, Volkert, now the NJIT head coach, was an assistant coach. The Gaels posted a 13-5 record in MAAC play in 2013, their best since the conference began regular season championship play more than two decades earlier in 1991.

Facing NJIT near the end of her senior year, she notched 10 kills and 13 digs to go with three block assists.

Pawelec, a 2010 graduate of Francis Lewis High School in Fresh Meadows, Queens, NY, was a four-year starter for Iona, twice earning All-MAAC second-team honors, earning All-Academic laurels from the MAAC three times and completing her career third on the all-time Iona list with 1,289 career kills.

In high school, Pawelec led Francis Lewis to three consecutive New York City Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) championships (2008 through 2010). Following the 2009 and 2010 seasons she was named All-City (PSAL) first team by both the New York Post and New York Daily News. Both newspapers also chose her as Queens Player of the Year.

She resides in South Amboy, NJ.
