Basketball's Kelly Guarino was named Female Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Highlanders 66-62 win over ASUN opponent North Florida on Saturday.
 
Guarino led all-scorers with 24 points, which ties her career-best that she posted against Virginia in 2015.
 
NJIT women's basketball picked up their first ever regular season series sweep in the ASUN Conference since joining in the 2015-16 season. The Highlanders also snapped a 16-game losing streak on the road that dates back to January 28, 2017.
 
In the win Guarino shot 8-for-13 from the field, 6-of-10 from three point range and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Guarino's six-three pointers is a season-best, and one shy of her career-best seven that she notched at Virginia.
 
Guarino is fourth in the team in points with 208 having missed the first nine games of the season, averaging a team-high 11.6 per game.
 
In conference play Guarino has tallied 151 points, more than any other Highlander and averaging 12.6ppg.
 
The senior ranks fifth in the ASUN in three-pointers making 49-of-128 and tied for second in three-point percentage with 38.3.
