NJIT’s women’s tennis player Jana Luste, a senior from Riga, Latvia has been selected as NJIT Female Athlete of Week for her performances against Sacred Heart and Saint Peter’s this past weekend.
The women's tennis team played their first match of 2014 on Saturday, January 25 against Scared Heart, defeating the Pioneers 4-3. Luste at the third spot went the distance with Lindsey Post dropping the first frame, 6-5(1) and fought back to take the next two sets, 6-4, 10-7. Senior Ksenia Kuzmenko and Luste were 8-2 winners for NJIT at first doubles over Sacred Heart's Katie Derienzo and Post.
In their home opener, the NJIT women’s tennis team swept Saint Peter's 7-0. Highlander Kuzmenko and Luste won at first doubles, 8-2, defeating Saint Peter's Adina Halagian and Lucia Radovic. Luste topped Halagian 6-5 (5), 6-2 at first singles.
The next women's tennis match is scheduled for Saturday, February 1 at 11:00am vs. Fairleigh Dickinson in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility
