Damon Lynn set new school Division I records (since 2006-07) of 34 points and the overall program record with nine 3-point baskets made in the Highlanders loss to North Carolina A&T 88-82 on Saturday, January 18.
Lynn's 34 points topped the old program DI mark of 31, set in a similar game last month by sophomore
Winfield Willis. On that night, the Highlanders, led by Willis, stormed back from a 17-point deficit with 8:52 remaining before LIU Brooklyn escaped with a 96-93 win in Newark. Before Willis, the record had been 28 points, done once by Jheryl Wilson (Class of 2011) and three times by
Chris Flores (Class of 2013).
The nine triples for Lynn on Saturday night shattered the old program DI mark of 6, which had done eight different times by five different players, including by Lynn himself earlier in the season at Hofstra on December 30. The overall school record of eight threes in a game had been done twice by Clarence Pierce, once in February 1994 and again in February 1995, when NJIT competed in Division III.
Lynn did not need an especially high volume of shots to set his records on Saturday, hitting 10-of-20 field goals overall and 9-of-18 3-pointers, plus 5-for-7 at the foul line.
