The 2011-12 Great West Conference Player of the Year, G/F
Isaiah Wilkerson, was selected by the Tulsa 66ers in the 2012 NBDL Draft on Nov. 2 – becoming the first Highlander in program history to be drafted into the NBA Development League.
Wilkerson was selected in the eighth round and as the 118
th overall pick by Tulsa, the minor league affiliate of the NBA's reigning Western Conference champion Oklahoma Thunder.
Wilkerson finished his collegiate career in March as the program's all-time leader scorer (1,577 points) and rebounder (616) in NJIT's Division I era. The Staten Island native currently ranks seventh in scoring for the program overall (pre-NCAA and all three NCAA Divisions) and 10th in rebounding overall.
Last season was a standout campaign for the most decorated player in the Highlander's Division I era, as Wilkerson led NJIT in both scoring (16.2 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg). These totals ranked Wilkerson second and fifth in the GWC, respectively. He also led the team in steals (56) and was second in assists (66) and third in 3-point baskets (44). The three-year team captain also made nearly 82 percent of his free throw attempts (115-141), a total that ranked fifth in the conference.
In addition to his league honors, Wilkerson was named honorable mention All-America by the Associated Press for the 2011-12 season -- becoming the first and only NJIT student-athlete in any sport to earn AP All-America honors since the program began Division I competition in 2006-07. The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association also honored Wilkerson with a 2011-12 All-Met Men's Division I third team selection.
A first-team all-conference his last two seasons, Wilkerson was also selected as the 2010-11 GWC Player of the Year by
CollegeInsider.com. As a sophomore, Wilkerson received his first year-end GWC accolades as a second team selection in 2009-10.
