Freshman John Porteous broke the 60 meter hurdles record with a 8.4, taking second and in the 400 with at 51.7 as the NJIT men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened up the 2011-12 season Friday at the 2011 Fordham Opener at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse.

Porteous also broke the freshman 55 meter hurdles record at 7.9 on Sunday at the Knights Classic.

Porteous was also a member of the freshman sprint medley relay  that set a new freshman record with a time of 4:01.5.
