Livia Gherman

Livia Gherman has joined the NJIT coaching staff for the men’s and women’s tennis teams in August 2014.
 
Gherman, who earned bachelor’s (2011) and master’s degrees (2013) from NJIT’s America East Conference women’s tennis rival University at Albany, began he coaching career in 2013-14 at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ.
 
A native of Romania, Gherman began her career as a college student-athlete at Washington State University, where she competed as a freshman and as a sophomore, with an appearance by the Cougars in the NCAA Division I Tournament. She was named to the Pac 10 Conference All-Academic team following both of her years at Washington State.
 
She transferred to UAlbany for her final two years and was the Most Valuable Player for the Great Danes in 2009-10 and a member of the All-America East Conference second doubles team. She graduated magna cum laude from UAlbany in 2011 with a BS in Business Administration. Her MS is in educational administration and policy studies-higher education.
 
Moving to coaching, Gherman assisted with FDU’s Northeast Conference women’s champions, who advanced to the 2014 NCAA Tournament, where they were eliminated by sixth-ranked California.
 
As an undergraduate at UAlbany, she was a membership sales representative for campus recreation and also held internships with the Great Dane athletics department in marketing and promotions and in media relations.
 
Gherman was active in volunteer community service throughout her college years, both in Washington and in the Albany area.
