Teona Tsertsvadze has joined the NJIT coaching staff for the men’s and women’s tennis teams in August 2016.

Tsertsvadze earned a bachelor’s (2012) from University of Illinois at Chicago and will pursue her MBA at NJIT.

She attended International Black Sea University in her hometown Tbilisi, Georgia in 2008-09 and began her career as a student-athlete at University of Oklahoma, where she competed as a sophomore.  Tsertsvadze helped the Sooners (18-6) to a #44 ranking in the nation and earned 2010 All-Big 12 team in doubles.   

Tsertsvadze transferred to UIC for her final two years and guided the Flames to back-to-back Horizon League Champions.  Playing at #2 singles and #1/#2 in the doubles line-up, Tsertsvadze was a two-time All-Horizon League first-team honoree, including 20+ wins in 2010-11 and 2011-12.  For her career at UIC, Tsertsvadze combined for a 45-23 singles record, 18-1 Horizon League singles and doubles record and 47-21 doubles mark.

Internationally, Tsertsvadze ranked as high as #693 in doubles at the age of 18 and #1048 in singles at the age of 16 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).  She won the Georgian National Championship in singles and doubles under 16 and ranked in the top 3 in the singles, among women at the age of 15 and 16 in Georgia.
