Highlander Leadership Academy
The Highlander Leadership Academy was developed in spring of 2018. It is an annual 5 week academy led by academics and athletics staff. First year students are nominated from their respective coaching staff for their potential as future leaders both in and out of athletics. The academy includes interactive lessons and discussions used to understand the leader inside everyone, with an emphasis on self-leadership. These principles are tied to situations in the classroom, in the workplace, and within sports. This program was developed in order to fill a gap seen by the athletics staff, and continue to provide opportunities to challenge and grow our student athletes.
The final session of the Highlander Leadership Academy culminates with presentations from the students on their ideas of good leaders and leadership principles.

Leadership Continuation Series
It is the goal of the program to continue to foster leadership skills and opportunities for the students who have gone through the Highlander Leadership Academy. These opportunities include a sophomore speaker series that dives deeper into what leadership means and how the skills learned throughout college can be used in the workplace and beyond. Speakers typically include guests who have exhibited success in their chosen career or industry.
Juniors are encouraged to get involved with the opportunities provided from NJIT’s Career Development Services, through the CDS Academy with an emphasis on internships and career readiness.
Seniors are asked to take on a mentor role within the Highlander Leadership Academy to pass on knowledge they have gained throughout their career at NJIT, and assist within the classes to foster discuss and learning.
