LEXINGTON, Va. - The NJIT swimming and diving team earned four medals on the second day of the America East Championships on Thursday at the VMI Aquatic Center. The Highlanders are currently in fifth place with 161 points.

Ilias El Fallaki broke the America East, NJIT, and pool records for the 500 freestyle to earn a gold medal with a personal-best time of 4:21.99.
Adam Mekrami earned a bronze medal in the 500 free with a personal-best time of 4:28.36.

Sam Deemer broke the 200 IM school record during the preliminaries with a time of 1:50.84, advancing to the A Final. In the final, Deemer set the 200 IM program record for the second time of the day, earning a bronze medal with a personal-best time of 1:49.54.

Tanish Chhabra,
Matthew Piacentini,
Aidan Blackmon, and
Zac Kuzak earned a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:21.45.

Chhabra (20.64) and Piacentini (20.76) scored points for the Highlanders in the 50 freestyle.

Aiden Ban finished ninth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 241.65.
