VILLANOVA, Pa. - The NJIT swimming and diving team (1-1) fell to Villanova (2-1), 178-118, on Friday at Villanova Swim Complex.

"We had some great swims in a fast meet. I'm proud of how the team responded throughout the meet and fought their way back in a bunch of races," head coach
Ron Farina said.

Sam Deemer won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.29 and earned his second victory of the day in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 1:53.22.

Pawel Drzymala claimed the title in the 200-yard butterfly, recording a time of 1:52.92. Borys Endle clocked a 200-yard breaststroke time of 2:06.20 to win the event.

NJIT secured first and second place in the 500-yard freestyle, with
Ilias El Fallaki (4:43.44) followed closely by
Adam Mekrami (4:43.53). Mekrami also finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking 9:41.70, just 0.61 seconds behind the winner. El Fallaki was edged out in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.96) by 0.02 seconds.

The Highlanders took the top three spots in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with
Oxford Bayley, Mekrami,
Michael McGillycuddy, and
Zac Kuzak winning the event in 3:13.29.

NJIT will compete in a dual meet against Georgetown tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Pool.
