NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's volleyball team continued its impressive start to the 2021 campaign on Friday evening at the Wellness and Events Center, defeating visiting Saint Francis University in three sets.
The victory was the fifth in a row for the Highlanders, which are ranked #14 in the latest AVCA poll and now boast a 7-3 overall record this season, with a 7-1 mark in EIVA action. SFU drops to 1-14 overall and is winless through eight EIVA matches.
NJIT took the first two sets 25-15, before coming from behind in the third set to win 25-20 and defeat the Red Flash in straight sets for the second-straight evening.
As a team, NJIT hit .321 for the match and held Saint Francis to a .077 hitting percentage.
Julian Meissner (11 kills),
Alvaro Gimeno (10 kills), and
Luca Berger (nine kills) combined for 30 of the Highlanders' 38 kills in the victory.
Zachary Hresko finished with a career-high 28 assists as he handled the setting duties for NJIT.
NJIT is now 4-0 at home and has now won six in a row at the WEC dating back to last season.
The Highlanders will look to make it six in a row when they return to the court next Friday for the first of two matches against 12th-ranked George Mason in Fairfax, VA.
