LOUDINVILLE, NY -
The Siena Saints raised its baseball season record to 17-23, with
an 11-2 victory over visiting New Jersey Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon.
Siena's Frank Cebek pitched a complete game picking up his second win of the season. Highlander Anthony Corsi took the loss falling to 0-3 on the season pitching four innings.
The Saints took control of the game with a four-run second inning on a three-run homer by Chris Kleeps.
NJIT tacked on its only runs of the game in the top of ninth. 1B Kyle McCarthy and Dom Hayes led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Senior Mike Turner reached on an error by the shortstop loading the bases for sophomore Ricky Petrosino. Petrosino lined a single into right center scoring McCarthy, driving in the Highlanders first run of the game. 3B John Berner stepped up to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly into centerfield scoring Hayes driving in the final run of the game.
NJIT got six hits - all by different players. CF Craig Binkiewicz led the way for the Highlanders hitting 2-for-4 while Mike Turner, Petrosino and Berner each recorded singles. DH Matt Schlitter posted his eighth double of the year in the top of the first. Petrosino and Berner each had runs batted in as McCarthy and Hayes scored the runs.
Shortstop Chris Kleeps led the way for the Saints driving in five runs - three coming in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run homerun. Don DiPetta went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
The Highlanders return to action on Saturday when they travel to Vestal, NY for a 12:00pm double-header against Binghamton.
