WAYNE, NJ -- NJIT senior Steve Schreyer won the men's 200-backstroke and captain Teresa Higgins won the women's 500-yard freestyle as visiting NJIT fell in men's and women's swimming at William Paterson on Tuesday.
Schreyer recorded 20 points for the Highlanders, as he finished with a time of 2:33.66 in the 200-yard backstroke and with a time of 24.01 in the 50-yard freestyle, Schreyer picked up 17 points.
Higgins won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:25.88 and placed fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle at 2:26.51.
Teammate Ashley Craig added a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle and a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle for the Highlanders.
Highlanders' Pablo Botero added a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:30.47 and freshman Rich Montesano finished third at 6:08.39.
Freshman Andrew Helbers swam a 5:46.00 placing second in the 500-yard freestyle and finished fourth with a time of 11:41.00 in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Captain Michael Lawson was the top finisher for the Highlanders in the 200-yard backstroke placing second with a time of 2:39.81, good for 17 points.
The NJIT men's swimming team returns to action on Saturday, December 6 when they compete in Loudonville, NY against Howard. The women's swimming team will face Siena and Howard.
The meet is scheduled to start at 1pm.
