NJIT junior Amobi Armstrong posted a match-high 18 kills as the Highlanders fell 3-1 to Ball State in four games (30-17, 30-24, 26-30, 30-22) in a non-conference match-up in Indiana tonight.
The Highlanders fall to 1-1, while Ball State improves to 4-5 picking up its third straight win.
Adding to Armstrong's 18 kills was senior captain Eduardo Welter, recording 11 kills. Junior setter Rodrigo Correa, making his first start of the season piled up a match-high 35 assists while adding five digs.
Leading the Highlander defense was Welter with 12 digs while Armstrong dug-up eight.
The Highlanders had their most efficient offensive game in the second, committing just seven errors on 33 swings and 16 kills. However, Ball State posted 14 kills for a .500 percentage.
Ball State's Patrick Durbin notched 14 kills, while five different players posted double-figure totals in the digs category. Durbin (18), Todd Chamberlain and Billy Ebel (14), Ian Peckler (13) and Matt Sprague (10).
Matt McCarthy posted a match-high five total blocks as the Cardinals dominated at the front of the net recording 23 total blocks to NJIT's 10. Wagner and Armstrong each added three blocks apiece for the Highlanders.
Sharing igh match-high honors was NJIT's Robert Thomas and Ethan Pheister tallying three aces.
The Highlanders return to action when they head down Warren Street to take on Rutgers-Newark at Rutgers on January 30 at 7 pm.
