The NJIT women's tennis team stayed unbeaten, but it wasn't easy for the Highlanders to capture the third match of the season, as they edged Mount St. Mary's, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon.
The teams split the six singles matches and NJIT claimed the victory thanks to a 2-1 edge in doubles.
The Mount St. Mary's first doubles team of its number-two singles player Emily Bolchoz and number-three Chelsea Johnson topped NJIT, 8-3. But the Highlanders took both the second and third doubles.
Senior Chiori Koike was the only dual winner of the day for the Highlanders, scoring in both fifth singles and third doubles.
At second doubles, Highlanders Dasa Stanimirovic and Fanny Aizier combined for an 8-6 win and Koike and Grace Bogdan were 8-3 winners at third doubles.
In the singles competition, NJIT won in the first, fourth and fifth spots, while the Mountaineers triumphed at two, three and six.
In the top spot, Iulia Doci was a 6-1, 6-2 winner for the Highlanders, but Bolchoz and Johnson won two and three, respectively, for Mount.
NJIT's Isha Toor took fourth singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Koike won at number five, 6-3, 6-2.
The Highlanders will head to upstate New York for a two-day tournament hosted by Binghamton University on Friday and Saturday.
