New Jersey Institute of Technology picked up its first win in Florida, defeating Johns Hopkins, 5-2, on Wednesday in the third match of NJIT's four-match Spring Break trip.
The Highlanders, who had lost their first two matches on the trip against Florida-based schools (Florida Atlantic and Florida Tech) took Johns Hopkins by capturing the first four singles matches, along with the doubles point, thanks to wins in the second and third doubles slots.
NJIT, which is 8-5 on the season, got singles wins from Iulia Doci (1-6, 6-0, 6-2 at #1), Fatima Kasem (6-1, 6-2 at #2), Isha Toor (6-1, 6-2 at #3) and Fanny Aizier (6-1, 6-1 at #4).
In doubles, Johns Hopkins prevailed in the top spot, but Toor and Aizier combined for 8-4 win in the second spot and Chiori Koike and Marine Henry were 8-4 winners at number three.
The Highlanders will wrap up their Florida trip with a 9 am match on Thursday vs. Saint Louis in Melbourne.
