The New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s tennis team rolled to its second 6-1 win in as many days, defeating Walsh University of Ohio Sunday night at the Tenafly Racquet Club.
The Highlanders, 11-4, won five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests. Walsh won third doubles and sixth singles.
Iulia Doci had a dominant night, combining with Fatima Kasem for an 8-1 win in first doubles and then scoring a 6-1, 6-0 win in first singles. Kasem was a 6-2, 6-2 winner in second singles.
Deepti Sanjai and Eva Salierno each picked up a pair of wins for the Highlanders, as well. They teamed for an 8-5 win in second doubles, while Sanjai was 6-2, 6-1 winner in third singles. Salierno won a hard-fought decision in fourth singles, dropping the first set, 2-6, before rallying in the second set, 6-4, and winning the tiebreaker, 10-8.
Rebeca Solorzano’s 6-0, 6-0 win in fifth singles gave the Highlanders their final team point.
Next on the schedule for the Highlanders will be on a Spring Break trip to the Phoenix, Arizona, area, where NJIT will take on three foes—Mesa State, Western New Mexico and Northern Arizona—from March 11 to March 13.
