The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's tennis team claimed its fourteenth win overall and second win against an NCAA Division I opponent sweeping St. Peters 7-0, Saturday night at Tenafly Racquet Club.
The Highlanders are 14-4 overall and three of its four losses have come from NCAA Division I opponents.The Highlanders previously lost to Lafayette, Temple and Seton Hall. NJIT's other loss came from Division II Clarion however the Highlanders were missing their No.1 singles player Iulia Doci.
None of the matches were close, all but one with the Highlanders sweeping the six singles contests and three doubles. The third singles match went three sets. Senior Eva Salierno was down the first set to Christy Boner 2-6, but came back in the second and third set beating Boner 6-1, 6-4.
NJIT won the doubles points, sweeping all three matches. Iulia Doci and Chiori Koike were first off the court, dropping Angela Wiggs and Vanessa Pangikas, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Eva Salierno and Deepti Sanjai clinched the point for the Highlanders with an 8-3 win over Christy Boner and Meredith Earlet at No. 2 doubles. Grace Bogdan and Rebeca Solorzano defeated Andrea Estat and Jing Cheung, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.
The Highlanders are scheduled to host Philadelphia University on Saturday March 25th at the Fleisher Athletic Center at Noon.
