Oct. 8, 2006

Box Score

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Freshman Cosmin Chiudjea was a double winner, taking second singles and teaming with classmate Steve Erickson to win first doubles for New Jersey Institute of Technology in a 6-1 team loss

The match was actually closer than the final score indicates, as four of the six singles were decided either in three sets or by tiebreaker and first doubles went to a tiebreaker and the other two were decided by two points.

Chiudjea topped Siena's Nick Rutherford, 3-6, 6-0 and 6-1, while Chiudjea and Erickson beat Rutherford and Jeremy Deuel, 9-8 (4) in doubles.

Siena got the point from doubles with an 8-6 win over the NJIT of Damian Wentzel and Tim Weiman at second doubles and a 9-7 win in third doubles over Keith Tracy and Samil Patel.

In first singles, Siena's Deuel edged Erickson with a super tiebreaker, 6-7 (5), 6-4 (10-5). The fourth and fifth singles went to three sets. Siena's Kevin Gioia took number four from NJIT's Ramy Lawandy, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and at fifth singles, Jay Godpole of the hosts took the Highlanders' Tracy, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Both teams' records are now even on the season, with the Highlanders at 2-2 and Siena going to 3-3.

Next up for the Highlanders is the Lehigh Tournament on October 14 and 15 in Bethlehem, PA.
