Four players notched double-figure kills totals and New Jersey Institute of Technology scored a 3-0 win over Winston-Salem State in women's volleyball Friday evening in the Delaware State University Invitational.
Freshman Kasha Hornstein led the NJIT hit parade with 12 kills, while Agnieszka Pregowska and Kristy Haeckel each had 11 kills and Kubra Tanrikulu had 10 kills in the Highlanders' 30-18, 30-14, 30-11 win. As a team, the Highlanders had a dominant .449 hitting percentage on 55 kills and just 11 errors in 98 attempts.
Danielle Thompson collected a match-best 41 assists for NJIT, while Pregowska was the leader in digs, with 9. The Highlanders also dominated the serving game, posting 15 aces to two for Winston-Salem. Haeckel had 6 aces and Sabrina Baby had 4 to lead NJIT.
NJIT, playing for the first time in more than a week, picked up its sixth victory in its first season competing at the NCAA Division I level.
The Highlanders will take on host Delaware State on Saturday at 1 pm, before facing Providence at 3 pm.
