WASHINGTON, DC - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's soccer team made history Sunday afternoon, registering its first victory as an NCAA Division I program in a 3-1 win over Howard University.

The Highlanders, who are in their first season playing a Division I schedule and who are slated to become championship eligible in 2007, scored once in the first half and two times in the second to claim the win over Howard.

NJIT scored its first goal less than two minutes into the game, as sophomore Briana Morales scored, assisted by Katie Hepfinger.

Howard drew even with just over eight minutes left in the first half and the score remained tied until midway through the second half, when senior Cindy Bayiokos notched an unassisted goal with 24:11 remaining.

Morales collected her second goal of the game with an insurance tally in the closing minutes. Cindy Bayiokos assisted on Morales' closing goal.

NJIT's senior goalkeeper Bruna Lotufo was outstanding, recording a career-high 14 saves in the victory. For the Bison, goalkeeper DeLaine Anderson posted eight saves.

The Highlanders return to action when they travel to Quinnipiac on October 4 for a 3 pm start.
