GREENSBORO
, NC
—North Carolina A&T's Nick Rogers did an impression of Babe Ruth, pitching six scoreless innings and driving in six runs, with two home runs, as the Aggies defeated visiting NJIT, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon.

With NJIT (2-4) having swept both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, the Rogers-led win allowed A&T (3-6) to avoid a series sweep.

Rogers, a senior, had been 6-for-8 with five RBI in his team's doubleheader loss on Saturday. On Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with the six RBI and three runs scored. But Sunday he added the element of his own pitching and he tossed six shutout innings, allowing five hits, while striking out nine and walking two.

NJIT collected two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings against the North Carolina A&T bullpen, but Rogers got the win, upping his season record to 2-1. He hit a two-run homer in the third inning to build a 4-0 lead and then his grand slam in the sixth made it 8-0 and ultimately provided the winning cushion when the Highlanders got back four runs later on.

The losing pitcher for the Highlanders was freshman Tripp Davis, who started and took the loss after working four innings and yielding four runs. Five other freshmen pitched in relief for NJIT and three-- Ian Wladika, Frank Shivers, and DJ Roche -- did not allow a run among them.

NJIT, which finished with 10 hits, got two apiece from LF Teddy Bickert, who drove in two runs, DH Bryan Bleakley, and C Jesus Jaile. Bickert hit a two-run double in the seventh inning.

The Highlanders are slated to visit Rutgers for a 3 pm game on Wednesday.
